Each year, the Montgomery County Planning Department
prepares and submits an annual program plan to the Planning Commission.
The projects included in the plan are divided into two categories: major
and minor. Major projects include those projects which involve a longer
term committment of resources (sometimes spread over multiple years) and
personnel. Minor projects are generally shorter in length and more narrowly
focused. Although the previous work programs are mentioned in the minutes
of the Planning Commission, the full descriptions are available from the
Montgomery County Planning Department.
Special Projects cover a broader range of topics
than those necessarily designated in the department's work plan for the
year. Special Projects are separated into two categories: 1) those projects
generated by Planning Department staff; and 2) projects created by university
classes or individual student interns. Montgomery County is home to two
universities and university communities, Radford University (Radford) and
Virginia Tech (Blacksburg). The special student project pages highlight
the work of students (and professors) from both universities.
